Black Berry Mojito | Happy Hour

Wednesday, July 8, 2020

I'm literally obsessed with making cocktails at home. Ever since we got stuck inside from COVID I've been mixing up some of my favorite delights and trying to create new ones. I swear that when the world opens back up I'm going to throw the coolest home warming party ever.

I hope you can make it.

I went to my local 99 cents store to pick up some veggies and came across blackberries and tried to decide what I could make with it. I love mojitos, plain and pineapple, but I never had a blackberry one and they never offer them in Vegas. This is the town of booze and yet the drinks can sometimes seem limited unless you're in a swanky hotel.

I grab a pack and made my way home thinking about what I could pair with it for happy hour. I already had some Mojito mix, lime juice, club soda, mint, and rum at the crib.

Tip freeze your mint. Trust me when the muddler hits it the freshness will come out. I don't have time to run all over town looking for fresh ingredients. I use concentrated lime (don't judge me) if you can use fresh limes to do so. I suggest at least one of your fruits in this be fresh.

Simple syrup is what makes this cocktail tasty. All you do is add equal parts sugar and water to a saucepan over low heat until the sugar dissolves. You can also infuse your favorite fruit. I use this method for sangria. If you're not an alcohol drinker just substitute the rum for Sprite.

People act like getting crushed ice is hard. I put my ice cubes in my blender on "pulse" and I broke them down and let them sit in the frig. When I was ready I added it to the drink before adding in the rum and club soda.

The better the rum the better the drink. Don't go with cheap rum for a mojito. If you can get it from the islands then you're doing just fine. I had two shots in this and I WAS DONE.

You check out my IG stories you can see me create more con-cock-ions LOL. My whole reason for this is because I have a midcentury modern style for my apartment. I love a good happy hour. One of my favorite shows was Mad Men and I love Jackie-O's style. All of that makes me think I'm from the fifties and have a reborn heart.

I may not be keeping all the traditions from then but this one I am.

Make sure to check out my Instagram where I post more drinks.

THE RECIPE

2 springs of mint

2 shots of rum

1 shot of lime juice

5 black berries

*Tip: Influse your fruit into your simple syrup (about half a cup) < that's what made it amazing*

*Tip: you can use Sprite instead of Club Soda to top it off.

Ice crushed in a blender

I created a simply syrup in addition

- 1 cup of sugar

- 1 cup of water

boiled over the stove for 5-10 mins on medium.

You need a muddled or a round stick of some sort.

    Get your glass:

Throw in your mint, berries, lime juice, and simple syrup. Muddle everything together. Then add your rum, ice, and club soda to top it off. Stir it up and it's ready to serve.

Mix all this in a glass and that's it! Drink up.

    Before You Go:
